Specialist Disability Accommodation

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) In A Nutshell

A Place Built With You in Mind

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is housing designed for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.

SDA homes are purpose-built, with features like wide doorways, accessible bathrooms, and strong supports that make daily life easier.

A Home That Helps

SDA homes are built to support independence. They’re designed to reduce the need for support and make it easier for you to get on with daily life.

For some, it means being closer to family or community. For others, it’s about having a space that finally feels right.

What’s the Difference Between SDA and SIL?

One’s the House, The Other’s the Help

SDA is the physical home — the building itself. Think of it as the bricks, mortar, and layout that makes your space accessible and safe.

SIL, or Supported Independent Living, is the help you receive while living there. That might mean support with cooking, cleaning, medication, or daily routines — it all depends on what you need.

Both can be funded through the NDIS, but they’re separate. You might be eligible for one, or both. If you're approved for SDA, you still need to apply for SIL if you want ongoing daily support.

You Can Have One Without the Other

Some people live in SDA without needing SIL. Others might get SIL supports in a standard rental or their family home. It all comes down to your goals, support needs, and living situation. The key thing to know is that SDA and SIL work best when they’re tailored to you — not the other way around.

We Find the Right Fit, Then Bring the Support

We work with trusted SDA providers to match you with the home that fits your needs and your lifestyle. Once you’ve found the right home, we step in with SIL supports that help you feel confident, capable, and cared for. You focus on living life — we’ll handle the rest.
