NDIS Updates Made Easy

Here’s what you need to know about the changes happening with the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) and how they might affect you. Let's break it down:

New Rules for NDIS Supports

  • Changes to What You Can Buy: The NDIS now has new rules about what counts as a support. Make sure the services you use fit these new rules, as funds can only be spent on approved supports.
  • Talk to Participants: It’s important to explain these changes so that everyone knows what they can and can’t buy with their NDIS funds.

Changes in Plan Management

  • NDIA Monitoring Plans: The NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) can now change how a participant’s plan is managed if they think funds aren’t being used properly. This means plan managers and people managing their own plans need to follow NDIS rules closely.
  • Stay Informed: Make sure everyone knows the rules to avoid having their plans changed.

Total Budget Plans

  • New Total Budgets: Starting 3rd October, all new plans will have a total budget instead of separate amounts for each type of support. Providers should help participants manage their total budget to make sure it lasts the full 12 months.
  • Helping Participants Adjust: Providers can help participants learn how to manage their funds across different supports in the new total budget format.

Claims and Payments Updates

  • Two-Year Time Limit: You now have up to two years to claim for services. For services before 3rd October, claims must be made within the first year of the change. Make sure you claim on time so you don’t miss out.
  • Keep Good Records: Keep clear records and remind participants to provide invoices and claims quickly.

Requests for Information

  • Staying Eligible: If the NDIA asks for information to check a participant’s eligibility or decides to review their status, it’s important to respond quickly to keep NDIS access.

Online Sessions and Resources

  • Stay Updated: Attend online sessions offered by the NDIA to learn more about these changes.
  • Keep in Touch: Regularly talk to participants about these updates and how they might affect their plans.

Planning Flexibility

  • Future Changes in Planning: There’s a new planning process coming soon that will include flexible budgets. It’s not here yet, but it’s good to know it’s on the way.
  • Emergency Funds Only for Crises: Extra funds will only be given in emergencies, so planning ahead is important to manage the budget wisely.
